Dr. Xinjun Cindy Zhu

Dr. Xinjun Cindy Zhu joined Albany Gastroenterology Consultants as a practicing gastroenterologist.

After receiving her medical degree from Nanjing Medical University, Dr. Zhu then completed her internal medicine residency training at Providence Hospital of The George Washington University in Washington D.C. This was followed by fellowship training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Johns Hopkins Hospital of The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, where she also received extensive training in treating chronic diarrheal diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Dr. Zhu joined Albany Medical Center in 2010 and became an Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of The IBD, serving patients with IBD, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. She was named “Physician of the Year” in 2015 from the Northeastern Chapter of Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. She was also a principal investigator for the competitive IBD research and clinical trials supported by the National Institute of Health, pharmaceutical companies, foundations, and philanthropists. Her work has been disseminated in many premier journals and book chapters. She has been invited as a speaker for various international conferences.

Prior to returning to Albany, Dr. Zhu saw patients and conducted clinical trials at the Center For Digestive Health and provided gastroenterology service to Advent Health and Orlando Health in Orlando, Florida, where she also taught residents of Internal Medicine and medical students from the University of Central Florida medical school.

Her endoscopic expertise includes, but is not limited to, upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, chromo-colonoscopy, enteroscopy, Bravo pH test, capsule endoscopy, esophageal manometry, and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy.

Dr. Zhu is board certified in gastroenterology following internal medicine. She is a fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and a member of Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. She has been serving on the Food and Drug Administration Advisory Committee Division of Gastroenterology and Inborn Errors Products since 2012.

Dr. Zhu speaks English and Chinese.
