Dr. Joseph Polito

Dr. Polito is a graduate of Georgetown University and received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He completed his Internal Medicine internship and residency requirements at Boston University Medical Center. He subsequently served as Chief Medical Resident at University Hospital in Boston. He completed a Fellowship in Gastroenterology at Johns Hopkins Hospital – Johns Hopkins University where he published and conducted research on Crohn’s Disease. He was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at SUNY Stonybrook before joining Albany Gastroenterology Consultants in 1996.

Dr. Polito has a specialized interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and is a member of the CCFA Northeast NY Board of Directors as Chief of the Medical Advisory Committee. In addition, he is a member of the Capital District Physician’s Health Plan Board of Directors.

Dr Polito was recognized as Physician of the Year in 2007 by the Capital District Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. He was formerly Chief of Gastroenterology at St. Peter’s Hospital for 8 years. Dr Polito has been President of Albany Gastroenterology Consultants since 2012.
